C4-free subgraphs with large average degree

چکیده

Motivated by a longstanding conjecture of Thomassen, we study how large the average degree graph needs to be imply that it contains C4-free subgraph with at least t. Kühn and Osthus showed an bound which is double exponential in t sufficient. We give short proof this bound, before reducing single exponential. That is, show any G $$2^{ct^{2}\log\ t}$$ (for some constant c > 0) Finally, construction improves lower for problem, showing initial must t3?o(1).

Every Graph of Sufficiently Large Average Degree Contains a C4-Free Subgraph of Large Average Degree

We prove that for every k there exists d = d(k) such that every graph of average degree at least d contains a subgraph of average degree at least k and girth at least six. This settles a special case of a conjecture of Thomassen.

Existence of Spanning ℱ-Free Subgraphs with Large Minimum Degree

Let F be a family of graphs and let d be large enough. For every d-regular graph G, we study the existence of a spanning F -free subgraph of G with large minimum degree. This problem is wellunderstood if F does not contain bipartite graphs. Here we provide asymptotically tight results for many families of bipartite graphs such as cycles or complete bipartite graphs. To prove these results, we s...

Large induced subgraphs with equated maximum degree

For a graph G, denote by fk(G) the smallest number of vertices that must be deleted from G so that the remaining induced subgraph has its maximum degree shared by at least k vertices. It is not difficult to prove that there are graphs for which already f2(G) ≥ √ n(1− o(1)), where n is the number of vertices of G. It is conjectured that fk(G) = Θ( √ n) for every fixed k. We prove this for k = 2,...

Light subgraphs in graphs with average degree at most four

A graph H is said to be light in a family G of graphs if at least one member of G contains a copy of H and there exists an integer λ(H,G) such that each member G of G with a copy of H also has a copy K of H such that degG(v) ≤ λ(H,G) for all v ∈ V(K). In this paper, we study the light graphs in the class of graphs with small average degree, including the plane graphs with some restrictions on g...

C4-free graphs of bounded degree

Answering some questions of Gutman, we show that, except for four specific trees, every connected graph G of order n, with no cycle of order 4 and with maximum degree at most 3, satisfies |μ1|+ · · ·+ |μn| ≥ n, where μ1, . . . , μn are the eigenvalues of G. We give some general results and state two conjectures. AMS classification: 05C50
